City of Darlington

Greetings from the Mayor of the City of Darlington,

2008 will definitely be an exciting year for the City of Darlington.

The latest news is the movie starring Johnny Depp. Yes, they are coming to Darlington as I have received a telephone call from Universal Studio's wanting to talk about the movie. They will be coming in April or May and the timeframe will be 2 days for setup, 1-2 days of actually filming the movie in the Courthouse and then 1 day tear down. This speaks a lot of our Lafayette County Courthouse maintenance staff and of course, the rest of the Courthouse employees. Thank you for keeping this building as beautiful as you have.

The Hotel will be opening up by Memorial Day. This is a long awaited project for the City and we hope you support them. If you have any questions
in regards to the Hotel, contact Suzi Osterday at the Darlington Chamber/Main Street office at 776-3067.

The Co-op Housing and Dental Office is starting to move forward. The Dental Office is hoping to open later this summer and the housing units shortly after that. This $5M project will greatly enchance our downtown and the City of Darlington. I am very excited about this.

This summer, the City of Darlington will be hosting the Cal Ripken Baseball Tournament in July. There will be teams from over the State of Wisconsin coming to our City. Suzi and Darlington Chamber will be looking for people and organizations to help with this Tournament. Please feel free to contact her with any assistance at 776-3067.

This spring, you will be seeing a piece of history being torn down in Darlington. The City received a grant from FEMA and the WI DNR to tear down the former Mildred Burke house on Main Street. This is all part of the flood mitigation program which the City is involved in.

Also this summer, Doug Lindstrom will be adding a dump station to the City Riverside Campground. The money for this dump station came from the WI DNR and is a result of ATV license fees and gas tax money. People have been asking for this dump station and it will be coming.

If you ever have any questions regarding the City, please feel free to call the City Office at 776-4970 or you can leave me a message at 776-4975, city office or call me at my house, 776-4247. You may also e-mail me at mayor@cityofdarlingtonwi.org.
