Greetings from the Mayor of the City of Darlington!
2011 continues to be a good year for the City of Darlington. Our Main Street is looking good with shoppers and tourists showing a small town is still a wonderful place to shop. With the announcement the Bargain Nook Store is staying open shows that the citizens of Darlington and the surrounding area do care. This just goes to show that shopping locally does pay off. Before you run off to shop at the big stores, give the local stores a chance, say HI to your friends, save some gas money and shop locally.
With summer comes increased bicycle traffic in the City from our children. I cannot emphasize enough to please be on the lookout for these children on bikes. Parents, please educate your children on the rules of the road. A STOP sign means STOP. I have personally asked Police Chief Jason King to have him and his fellow police officers watch bicyclists and to have them educate our children on the rules of the road.
Another situation I ask our local citizens to use more vigilance is, when driving down our Main Street, do stop to let pedestrians cross the street. This is being courteous and your neighbor will appreciate it.
I cannot say enough about Doug Lindstrom and his summer programs he has for the youth. With t-ball, softball and the pool, our children have an opportunity other Cities only wish they had.
If you ever have any questions regarding the City, please feel free to call the City Office at 776-4970 or you can leave me a message at 776-4975 or call me at my house, 776-4247. You may also e-mail me at mayor@cityofdarlingtonwi.org.
