Greetings from the Mayor of the City of Darlington!
What an exciting year for the City of Darlington!
Darlington Heights Senior Housing Condominiums and the adjoining Dental Clinic is an exciting and welcome addition to our City. This $5 million building replaces property which had an evaluation of only $300,000 last year. The Dental Clinic will eventually employ 10 people and the 17 Condominiums will offer a housing opportunity the City did not have previously.
The Super 8 and adjoining Bridges Restaurant, Lounge & Conference Center have proven to be a successful venture for the City and Lafayette County.
Our ATV tourism continues to grow. What an impact this makes in tourism for the area. We are also seeing an increase in the number of canoeists and kayakers on the Pecatonica River. I believe this opportunity is just starting to grow and we encourage everyone to promote this sporting opportunity to their friends.
We have many ongoing events in the City and in our County. Cinco de Mayo, the Canoe Festival and the Lafayette County Fair are wonderful and really give us the chance to showcase ourselves. Please don't hesitate to get involved and help make these successful for our area.
The movie "Public Enemies" premiered in July with Darlington and the Lafayette County Courthouse making its Hollywood debut. It was fun to see familiar faces and surroundings in a major motion picture.
If you ever have any questions regarding the City, please feel free to call the City Office at 776-4970 or you can leave me a message at 776-4975 (Mayor's office) or 776-4247 (residence). You may also e-mail me at mayor@cityofdarlingtonwi.org.
